“Pink it’s my new obsession
Pink it’s not even a question,
Pink on the lips of your lover,’cause
Pink is the love you discover”
“Pink …it’s the color of passion
‘Cause today it just goes with the fashion”
‘Pink’ also signifies compassion and caution (breast cancer and female reproductive health mascot). The pink ribbon is an internationally recognized symbol of hope and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. The colour has its own city (Jaipur – “The Pink City “) and its own theme song by an American hard rock band, Aerosmith. And yeah not to forget, its instant association with Barbie and her pink mansion.
According to Pantone.com, “2011 is the year of pink”. Designers calls it a “mood-lifter”- perfect to ward off the blues. The colour ‘pink’ emboldens us to face every day troubles with verve and vigor. It is “encouraging and uplifting”. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have been part of everyday life.
The colour ‘pink’ is also associated with being “cute and sweet” and it does generate a lot of happy and positive vibes, says Archee, my closest pal, who hates being called “Pinky” but doesn’t care what people think of her “borderline” obsession with this colour.
Sadly, A lot of guys don’t wear pink, despite wanting to because it’s so strongly related to being feminine. In my opinion, colour’s should not be categorised in this way. One should be free to wear whatever colour one wants.
Siding away the popular opinion of ‘pink’ being a “girly” colour, Saif Ali Khan (in Kal Ho Na HO) is among the first men on Indian celluliod to make wearing ‘pink’ not seem “effeminate”. Not only did he carry off that pink shirt well and manage to look ‘hot’, he made it acceptable too.
In my opinion, Pink is the color of compassion and empathy. Maybe this is why it is so associated to the feminine: because women are often times much more in tune to their feelings and expressing them. It is very often connected with romance, love, friendship harmony, relaxation and companionship. It is considered a color of good health and life.
To conclude, Typically, pink is referred to as a feminine color. But another school of thought says that Colours do not have gender.
